a lot of those guys stayed in the conquered areas and literally lorded it over the vanquished, to the point that they actually became that country’s royalty.
People on the affected coasts of Europe prayed, “From the fury of the Northmen, O Lord deliver us.” While the Viking men indulged themselves plundering and pillaging (and who knows what else), Viking women for the most part stayed home worrying and wondering if their men were behaving themselves among all the foreign women. And that possibly originated the saying, “H-ll hath no fury like a (Viking) woman scorned.”
Around here there is a serious shortage of school bus drivers and substitutes. This rural county has asked the state for money to up wages and give full benefits. Even worse in the big cities where they have to put up with self entitled brats and teen thugs. The worst is in the majority Black low income areas. Middle class and up Black areas, where the preponderence is two parent households is far better. Goes to show it is parenting, not race.
Around here the problem is ageing. The population is getting older and less able to drive during dark hours, which is from November to early March. Their reaction times are also longer. I can emphathize. These days my reactions are measured on a sun dial, not a stopwatch.
And the younger set can’t afford to work what is in effect part time as bus drivers.
Florida, last year, because of all the new laws (don’t say gay etc) and low pay have a shortage of teachers, sooo they said Veterans to become teachers with no teacher training
I have been intrigued by Viking lore ever since I was a young boy. ( I also grew up in MN.) I often wondered what was the motivation behind them leaving peaceful villages and going on dangerous adventures? And after I had been married a year or so I settled on this answer.Matrimony!
School teachers have the toughest job, tougher than cops. Cops carry guns, teachers defend their students with their own body. Check how many teachers lost their lives protecting their students from mass murderers.

had days as a teacher where I thought sacking and pillaging with Vikings would be a relaxing summer break.

I was a school teacher. But I’ll defer to the bus drivers – they have it worse!

They may have been outnumbered thirty to one each time. But not being students, the outnumberees didn’t have weapons.

Being a viking pays better, unless you are head of the teacher’s union and can get kickbacks from the government
