I remember the Zeck story going down differently. Parallel universe: it’s the only possible explanation. I keep having to tell myself that while reading books and comics and watching movies, tv shows and the news.
Zeck is going to have Archie followed? In the Nero Wolfe mysteries, Archie can always spot a tail, at least while in NYC. Can he still spot one, while in Chicago?
1-DUNCAN HINES: Hey boss. Sorry to bother you while you’re “working” smirk
2-ZECKERBURG: Yeah, yeah, whadaya want? I’m busy.
DUNCAN: The Sports Section – just while I drop the kids off at the pool. Also, I can see in the mirror behind you that that spot that was on your forehead earlier has moved to the back of your head. AND it’s gotten bigger! You might wanna have that looked into…
if this was the Kentucky Derby and it was a race between ‘Molasses’ and ‘Wolfehunt’, I’d put my bet down on ‘Molasses’ to win … ‘Molasses’ would clearly reach the finish line in record time, as ‘Wolfehunt’ stumbled at the gate’…
Contrary to popular opinion (as exemplified in numerous comments above), I am so far satisfied with the pace of this arc. Every day, a little progress is made in detection or in exposition, and we inch in upon and learn about Zeck and his flunkies and what they hope to achieve by holding and psychologically tormenting Nero Wolfe.
Shelley’s art is rich and varied, never boring, while Mike’s story so far, is easy enough to follow. (Again: I hope he doesn’t get sidetracked at any point!)
I suspect that Zeck’s plan, to have Goodwin tailed, will backfire. Arnold seems to be unaware, or foolishly unconcerned, that Tracyville’s preeminent police detective is accompanying Goodwin. Between the two of them, I think any two-bit tail will be plucked!
Why do these guys have Wolfe in that room? Are they therapists who happen to wear suits? The renowned Nero Wolfe must have suffered from nervous exhaustion and needed some quality “me time”.

Good morning™, everyone!
I see that the hunting goes in two directions now. The only problem is that the bad guys have the upper hand.

Shouldn’t that headline be: “Bank Failed”?

I keep imagining these two as actors playing Michael J. Anthony and John Beresford Tipton in a reboot of “The Millionaire.”

“Oh, and Mr. Zeck? We are expecting the sun to rise in the east tomorrow.”
Zeck sighs, “I need a better class of stooges. Should I offer more money?”

I think I’ve figured it out, the bad guys wanted to rob a bank so they wanted Wolfe out of the picture. They weren’t worried about the police.

It might be exciting if Tracy detects this tail being put on him and Goodwin and has a little action with them.

That newspaper headline, "Bankrobber Jailed, " keeps popping up! Maybe it has something to do with this story?
