If Bush and Cheney and congress men/women’s kids, grandkids, aunts, uncles, cousins, were the first ones sent to Iraq and Afghanistan to fight, we might not have declared war.
The main results were giving Iran much more influence and enabling ISIS to thrive for a while…sounds like another loss. Colin Powell lost his credibility as well.
I remember being in a protest against Bush’s Iraq war, people came by in their cars honking their horn and shouting “remember 9-11”. Even though Iraq had nothing to do with the 9-11 attack.
Every once in a while I check for an article I read after 9-11. Can’t find it. I do remember the author suggested 9-11 be treated as a crime, form an international group of police (like Interpol) and, instead of a war against a country, treat the act like a crime and hunt down the perpetrators one by one.
Do ya remember when Dan Rather was thrown off the airways because he said the Dubya avoided service during Vietnam. What Rather said was the absolute truth.
A famed Political Scientist, Kevin Phillips devoted an entire chapter to Dubya’s shenanigans to avoid his military duty in his book American Dynasty.
I just went to Jen’s site and donated money for this one. The Relentless Jingoists is a magnificent name for a rock band, but I’m not that ambitious or talented. Let it be noted that in Flagstaff, AZ, the backlash from Black Lives Matter manifested itself in about a dozen monster trucks in the Walmart parking lot, sporting flags of limited color.
I believe that many Baby Boomers, either from guilt at the way they treated those in the military, or growing up and realizing the world is not neatly either/or, or maybe deciding to dump that peace and love crap let’s make some money, went all out jingoist after 9-11. I always feel a tiny bit annoyed at people my age who thank me for my service. It"s like they’re in a twelve-step program and they’re making amends. I have a mental picture of myself telling them it’s okay, it was a long time ago, you were probably a know-it-all idiot, go in peace and sin no more. Good times…
During the Iraq war, I participated in at least two demonstrations against the conflict. Unlike Afghanistan, we went into Iraq based on faulty intelligence and the perception that Saddam Hussein was creating weapons of mass destruction and had a hand in 9-11. I also remember participating in a get out the vote campaign in Florida for John Kerry and the then Democratic candidate for Senator in the 2004 campaign. Kerry ended up losing, but I had no regrets. I have come to have some respect for George W. Bush during the Trump years. At least Bush was capable of feeling shame and didn’t encourage his supporters to take to the streets if the race didn’t go his way.

Isn’t it funny the five countries that have the largest arms sales in the world are all permanent members of the UN Security Council

not really since it was composed of the biggest military powers post WW2. Only exception is China which I believed was in a civil war at that time.

Have you (readers) ever looked at how neatly Kuwait fits into Iraq, geography-wise?

The day the Iraq war started I was with a group of people I worked with and asked “Can anyone say ‘Vietnam’?” No response-what a colossal waste.

I knew bush would have his war just because he wanted it, no matter how much dissent there was.

Not defending Putin. How was the US invading Iraq any different than Putin invading Ukraine. Besides no common border.

And those who got everything totally wrong don’t just show up on the Sunday shows.
They get recycled into every republican administration.
They were in trump’s, and if any republican ever seizes power again, they’ll be back.
