Must have been out of cereal, mac and cheese boxes and ramen, my old bachelor stand-bys. Can never go wrong with grilled cheese, though. Hope there’s tomato soup in the house

Look for the recipes with the most stains, they’re usually the best

Most of my cooking I owe to my mom’s direction. She taught me a lot. But, over the years, I’ve simplified those recipes to speed the process, and often, improve the taste. But, some of her best recipes haven’t changed, like her icebox fruitcake. Yum. Now, that’s the way the fruitcake was meant to taste.

Many options beyond a plain grilled cheese. Add your favorite sliced meat, with some mayo or mustard. Fill with your preferred pizza toppings and sauce, with mozzarella or parmesan cheese. A filling of canned tuna, mayo, onions, peppers and shredded cheddar makes a great tuna melt. Decisions, decisions…

Start with the basics first. Good idea. Add some bacon next time. Grill some mushrooms and onions. Next time, toss a hamburger patty next time and now we are talking some good eating…….

My ex wanted grilled cheese. I had never eaten it (I don’t like cheese and I don’t recall my mom ever making one) but we had bread, cheese and butter and I found it extremely easy. Eventually I varied it, but I see nothing complicated about a basic grilled cheese sandwich. I think that is the point here and I am being too logical again.

It is possible to ruin a grilled cheese sandwich, heck it’s possible to ruin toast,or a frozen dinner.

99% of the cheese sandwiches were a slice of cheese and the toaster though the frying pan method is so much tastier
