I don’t believe Hobbes was actually sleeping.

I talk in my sleep. Husband says it is very clear and completely understandable.

Now you know one reason of many I do not have affairs!

One of Calvin’s mottoes must be: “Do onto others, First! Then run like heck!”

What would an on-looker, who would imagine Hobbes to be a doll rather than an animal, make of all this?

First panel. The on-looker would see Hobbes as a doll lying on the floor and think Calvin was pretending that the doll was asleep and laughing in his sleep.

Second panel: The on-looker would hear Calvin whispering to the doll and might be able to hear what Calvin was whispering if close enough.

Third panel: The on-looker would definitely hear Calvin shouting “Run for your life, Calvin!” The on-looker would wonder why Calvin was shouting to himself. The on-looker would also see the “doll” rise intp the air and would conclude that Calvin had thrown the doll in the air although the on-looker wouldn’t have seen Calvin touch the doll.

Fourth panel: The on-looker would see Calvin apparently running for his life in answer to his advice to himself. The on-looker wouldn’t be able to see Hobbes chasing Calvin so would either see the “doll” back on the floor or would imagine that Calvin was dragging the “doll” behind him to pretend that he was being chased by a tiger.

As with dogs, it is best to let sleeping cats lie.

LOL :). Calvin is the kind of kid who yells “FIRE” in crowded theaters, too.

Sometimes, even when you’re acting in self-defense, you lose.

Might as well get a running start before Hobbes lands after that rude awakening.

We once had a cat that did something like this. He was curled up sleeping and I snuck up on him and hollered “WAKE UP, LOOK ALIVE, DO SOMETHING”. So he did: He woke up, hissed at me, and went back to sleep.

This is as bad as the robot Bender from “Futurama”. In his dreams, he mutters, “Kill all humans.” Of course, he also dreams about fembots, “Hey, baby, wanna kill all humans?”.

It’s often theorized that animals dream of hunting and chasing prey. What if they have nightmares of showing up for the hunt completely dressed?
