WONDERFUL. Super great. I was hoping beyond hope that Jef and Frazz would be bringing up Long Trails !! EXCELLENT. I bet Anish Anderson would be proud !!
Is it like the Appalachian Trail, where there are hundreds of places to get on and off trail? Start with day hikes, see if you like it. I’ve hiked small portions of it in NJ and NY (60+ & overweight).

211 miles long. I can agree w/ Frazz’s analysis.

My Dad hiked it at the age of 63.

Meh, you can apparently do it in three and a bit days, that’s barely a long weekend.

You need to be less disrespectful, not a lever.

I never did the JMT, but Dad & I went to Muir Woods in Marin County. It was neat! Something that lovely and lush, so close to SF.

There’s a John Muir Trail in NYC which is just a few easy miles, so this confused me for a minute.

Read Bill Bryson’s A Walk In The Woods; so much better than the movie.

Whether moving or not moving, inertia is going to do its part.
[Inertia isn’t just that an object at rest tends to remain at rest …
It’s also that an object in motion tends to remain in motion …]

In his apparent condition, Spaetzle will need a pickup truck to make that trip. But it’s ok to dream.

I heard the Mike Muir Trail is really rough and anyone who attempts it has a death wish on themselves. :P

There is still several feet of snow on the JMT. Not a year for beginners.

At some point Sisyphus also said “let’s roll that rock”.

OR… start by taking regular walks around town.

I’m liking where this arc seems to be taking us.

Decided not to be inertial? So he’s going to continuously go and stop?

Even I know that you need to start off small and work your way up to such an endeavor

I’ve never been able to backpack, but there’s a little of it in Yosemite on the way up to Vernal Falls

But still not “a body in motion” …

Or we could start with a nice little rock, not a boulder. See if there’s a local nature trail.
