Why did Janis need to ask about the basics? All he needs are those, a shaving kit, and a phone charger.

Women do not necessarily pack ahead of time. Case in point….my wife. When we go on any trip even if it is for days and we have to leave at 4 am, I am packed the day before, my wife will not pack until thirty minutes before we leave. Maybe Janis is just anxious to leave.

Three days to decide whether she needs to bring a bathing suit for the hot tub!

Notice that Arlo didn’t mention one!

My aunt and uncle were going on a cruise on the ‘70s and I drove them to the airport. My aunt’s luggage looked like those old pictures of the African safaris on which a long line of porters was luggong mountains of supplies. My uncle packed a carryon bag.

On a trip women have four suitcases and a handbag. Men? They can carry all they need in a WalMart bag.

I believe a lot of men learned to pack in the military. You carried what was needed for the job, you didn’t want extra because you had to carry it.

We went on a trip to the UK back in 84 or so. Hubby had dropped off his suit and the cleaners, and I reminded him several times to go get it. “I’ll go in a while.” Go get your suit! “I’ll leave in a few minutes.”

He finally decided to go after his suit at 5 PM. The dry cleaner closed at 3.

I had to find out where the cleaner lived and write a note to put on his front door. He called me at midnight, and I drove over to meet him. Honestly, if I knew another man with a bread, I’d have handed him Hubby’s passport and taken him, instead.

When it comes to packing, men are like Arlo. Pants, shirt underwear, razor, toothbrush… but women are like: So, we’re going to the cabin at the lake for a weekend. Even though it’s August, it might snow, so where are the snowshoes? And, we might get invited to the White House, so a formal gown and pearls, or are diamonds in style this season? And I might want to do my hair, so the hair dryers… and what if there is a country dance at the grange? Do I have a fringed skirt and boots? Oh, and….

I pack the day before. I’ve planned for days but the actual packing is done the day before.

I would never pack for my husband. Adults can pack for themselves.

My wife will sometimes start packing a week before we depart. She will lay out all of her outfits on a spare bed and rearrange them several times. I pack maybe the night before we leave, it takes me less than an hour.

I’ve gotten to the point where I’m tempted to hit a 2nd hand store where we are going to get clothes for the trip, and donate them back when we leave. “Overweight bag” fees are higher than a replacement wardrobe.

What’s the fuss? The **$#@! air line is going to lose the luggage anyway!

My husband packs the night before and only takes a minimum of clothes. More often than not, he spills something on his pants within 3 hours and something on his shirt a few hours later. No problem if he’d packed extra of either.
