April is one of those interesting children who get excited about rain boots and get excited about playing in the rain, but not both at the same time. You don’t want too much of a good thing.
Took my granddaughter home from dance class and first thing she ran in and got her rain boots to run around in the rain, still wearing dance clothes. Camera not handy, darn it.
In the fourth panel you can see that the name of the shoe store is spelt “Shoes”. But yet in the first panel it looks like they spelt the name Schoes? (Similar to the spelling of School.)
A long time ago I used to run a Salt Mine in Cleveland, OH. We had to supply our contractors with steel toed boots. Even though we bought the cheapest most uncomfortable boots we could find, they kept disappearing. One day one of the guys had the idea of spray painting green, pink, yellow, blue polka dots on the boots. That did it, no more theft. About a year later we had a young photographer for a magazine out to the mine. When she saw the boots her response was, “These are so cool !! Where can I get some?”
i did that at work years ago…quitting time it was raining, everybody was waiting for it to stop, i walk by with my umbrella, but i didn’t open it…naturally supervisor called out ‘why don’t you open your umbrella?‘…i turned and said, ’oh it’s new…i don’t want to get it wet’
They had a Cathy comic strip where she asked her Mom why she didn’t use the new purse she had bought for her. She said it’s too nice to use and she just wanted to keep it in a drawer to stay nice forever.
A better question might be, why is someone April’s age allowed to let herself out without permission or even informing an adult that she’s doing so? Because if she’d had to go to Elly first, Elly could have made her put her boots on. Though then I guess we wouldn’t have a strip.

The 5th panel is always true. Whenever a small child get new boots or shoes, they need to tell the nearest elderly lady.

Reminds me of Archie comics where Veronica refuses to go swimming because she didn’t want want her expensive bathing suits wet.

Isn’t it great to be a kid (or keep a kid’s attitude) – one of the best moments is getting a new pair of wellies and being able to splash in puddles.

Sounds like a MAD Magazine cartoon, specifically “The Lighter Side of” by Dave Berg.
A young lady is wearing a one-piece swimsuit, walking proudly as if she is a runway model. A guy in the pool splashes her.
Girl: SCREECH!
Guy: “Ha ha, got your good!”
Girl: “I just bought this swimsuit. Do you want to ruin it?”

Thank Heaven Mike left for college when he did!

Adults aren’t that different. I know a grown man who likes his bathmat so much he covers it with a towel to stop it from getting wet.
