April may be extraordinarily slow when it comes to falling, but her understanding of language at age 3 is quite fast.

Landing in a pile of leaves can be painful. Even a large pile does not cushion you very well. To top it off you and your clothes are covered with tiny pieces of crunched up leaf particles.

Why do the onomomopeas say “sweep” when John was using a rake?

Nice to see April acting like the kids in Family Circus instead of being her unruly self

Took a long time to fall. Looked like lunar gravity.

We used to make leaf houses. Fun at the time.

I moved to Shawnee National Forest (Trail of Tears) with 16 acres, mostly trees, I have trails, and I made a front lawn for the views, but I have lived here eight years now and not had to rake once, I do live on a Bluff with some strong winds coming through now and then. It’s nice not having to rake leaves.

I live next to a Cole Slaw farm. In the fall, we have to rake up all the bits of cabbage and carrots that blow into the yard.

Lighten up a litte. April is having fun, something sorely lacking in your comment. Learn to laugh a little, enjoy life.

I can still remember that Autumn in New England smell of burning leaves.

As enterprising kids, we looked forward to October in New England to make a little extra money. Usually, the same customers we had for mowing their lawns in the Spring and Summer, also paid us to rake their leaves in the Fall and shovel the snow from their sidewalks and driveways in the Winter.

Exactly. I like the smell of fallen leaves that have been stacked and prepared for evacuation, as long as I didn’t have to do it.

Ohio here: 1/2 way through October, and all my leaves are still in the trees. And they’re still green. What’s up with that?

Such wonderful childhood memories, not only of jumping into leaf piles, but we also used to rake the leaves into designs before piling them up on our driveway to burn them away while roasting marshmallows. At some point later, burning became illegal. ˙◠˙

One of my favorite memories from when my son was small: We were visiting my MIL in Spokane, Washington and the maple trees had all dropped their leaves the night before we arrived. My son dove into those leaves and had such a glorious time playing in them. (We lived in So CA where there was never an opportunity to play in a leaf pile.) I have a photo of him spread eagled in the pile with a grin of extasy on his face. When he finally came into the house and took off his jacket, he was filthy in only his head and hands, wherever he hadn’t been covered by the jacket. It was good for a laugh.
