High maintenance is a kind way of putting it, the only thing more fun than a yard sale is watching paint dry

We are all high maintenance, Arlo. Usually we just ignore the check engine light.

Almost 50 years in the same home raising a very large family means you do accumulate a fair amount of everything.

I have to keep reminding my husband (now 82) how much work a garage sale is. We had a few in our 40’s, and even then they were a lot of work. I say—-donate it all.

With what Janis appears to be thinking I would have a garage sale weekly.

Arlo, the answer to her question of being worth it better be a resounding “Yes!”

Yeah, I like to go to yard sales, I like the idea of having one, I should probably have one, but it’s a LOT of work and bother and not much comes of it. Some people seem to make a side business of it, though.

One town I lived in have annual yard sales and all of the people into yard sales would be standing around at home with their stuff out in their yard. They switched to setting up in the strip mall’s parking lot and people would leave with more than they brought in.

Why have you changed the comics? I can only read about 80 percent of each strip because once it downloads, it mysteriously clicks to a version that is much larger that cuts off the end. I’ve been reading comics here for years, and have always felt it was one of the best-run sites around. Now I’m very disappointed.-Bill Dawson wtdawson@

Was “the last time” an illustrated arc? I’m guessing no because if it was, one of our regular posters would have provided the link(s) already…

The main difference between a yard sale and trash day, is how close your items are placed by the curb…..

Yard sales are a LOT of work, usually for very little return…unless you’re putting out really decent stuff.

I cannot think of a single “fun” think about a yard sale. It is a huge amount of work, you have to be outside early in the morning and until at least noon, and I hate talking to the strangers who stop by and judge my sale items. Much easier to donate.

Janis is worth it. But how is her wanting to have a yard sale as a step toward clearing out unwanted things high maintenance? She’s the salesperson. She will stand out there. Easy enough to also schedule for the donation pick up truck to arrive at the end of the sale.

And how is Arlo’s starting the conversation of moving, then waffling about it, needing her to not talk about it, worrying that changing a light or faucet might be too difficult for him, and now him seeming on board at least with downsizing, but wanting to throw usable things away not the definition of being difficult and high maintenance?
