Mostly, the neighbors are wondering who the boyfriend is.

Darryl, for better recognition, try being a visibly involved dad, with better skills, and more often. Of course, that would deprive the strip of a lot of its gags, so, probably not gonna happen. :-) Poor Darryl; doomed to stereotypicality.

Where I live, pet owners identify each other by the name of their pet

I’d heard women complain that they didn’t wish to be referred to as “so-and-so’s mother/daughter/wife/etc.” but by their name. It never bothered me. There was a guy I knew who couldn’t remember my name if his life depended on it but always referred to me as “Leigh’s wife”, which quickly became his nickname for me (said like all one work: Leighswife). As for “Deborah’s Mom” or “Elizabeth’s Mom”…I consider that a high honor to be referred to as such.

Well seriously now, how often to moms introduce themselves to their kids little playmates and tell them to call her by their given name.

At least these kids have some respect for Wanda by not calling her by her first name. Mrs. MacPhearson would be the best.

Children should always refer to an adult by their title and last name, i.e. Mr/Mrs … or Grandma/Grandpa …. My Granddaughter once asked me what my name was and I told her Grandpa Olson. She said no, my first name. I replied Grandpa. The questioning ended at that point.

I guess, around my town anyway, we are anti-warm/fuzzy : D We call each other by name, nicknames are favoured and well known, unless one is a tourist altho tourists rarely if ever venture this far out of town.

My siblings friends and my friends called our parents mom and dad or Mr. and Mrs. C. My parents loved it.

Still call out guys(As I did my late husband) for introducing their spouse/me as “My Wife”. I’d say, I also have a name…or does your wife have a name? It’s less often, when a woman does the same thing with her husband, but it DOES happen. Still happens with adult children and their parents too.

Kids do not normally introduce their mother by first name, just “This is my mom.” so this is quite understandable. And children shouldn’t address adults by their first names anyway. When I was growing up, we had some friends who addressed their own parents by their first names, which always seem odd and a bit disrepectful to me.

You would expect that from children, but you would think the other mothers to address you by your name.
