I realize the enormous difficulty in coming up with fresh ideas for comic strips on a daily basis, but eventually staleness sets in. A few strips could use a major reboot.
One idea is for hard-working, long-suffering wives (Laura, Blondie, Flo Capp, etc.) to leave their useless husbands for good and successfully strike out on their own.
Alan makes a good point about adding cream, sugar or other flavorings to coffee, adding such does make it dessert like to me. The closest I have come to a dessert like coffee was an Irish coffee and that was about 8 or 9 years ago. I am content to have my couple of cups of black coffee in the mornings.
The simple answer is people have different tastes, as pointed out by the comments. I too am a bit of a purist, but I’m not above adding a bit of Baileys once and awhile.
I don’t like mixing foods either, and don’t understand why some people who claim to be great coffee drinkers go to extraordinary lengths to disguise the taste.
I hate waiting in line for my simple espresso while baristas are spending minutes making “coffee dessert” for others. There should be an espress (sic) line for straight espresso. Failing that, put a caffeine tablet vending machine near the door. :)
Or you could do like my dad, who, for a time, was putting vanilla ice cream in his espresso instead of cream. I told him that probably wasn’t a good idea for his health. I think he eventually stopped doing this.
I started drinking coffee when I was around 12 and on Weight Watchers. Using the milk would have used up part of what I was allowed for the day and the artificial sweeteners were not that good back then so I drank it black. Did so straight through the rest of junior high, then senior high, and then college – then my stomach decided it really did not like it and I would get stomach problems. Have not had it since (40 plus years). Don’t miss it. Husband has never drunk coffee or tea (though will have iced tea regularly).
Since I had stopped drinking coffee before I got married and left home – I never learned specifically how to make it (knew how, but never had done so). We had received a “Mr. Coffee” type coffeemaker as a wedding gift (different brand – and the people who gave it to us were neighbor of his parents & husband had a coffee supply route). First time we had company our friends in the living room could be heard laughing as they listened to us trying to make coffee for the first time. (I know that coffee maker must be here – somewhere as it was not used that many times.)

I’m sure fellow posters may have other ideas.

I agree with not adding cream, but I do like to add a packet of sweetener to my coffee.

The only time I have my coffee black is when the doctor’s office tells me to avoid milk before a procedure.

Will that have to be coffee ice cream?

I’ve tried coffee with those additives, but it did not appeal to me. I like it straight.

I’m with Adam on this, I want my coffee to taste like coffee.

Adding cream and sugar is for people who don’t like the taste of coffee but feel silly drinking a cup of sugared milk.

My dad always said if coffee was supposed to have milk and sugar, The Good Lord would have put them in the bean.

Most of the time, a small bit of sweetner. But I confess that sometimes I go the “Starbucks” route.

Coffee without sweetner is pretty harsh. I don’t know if I respect Adam more or less now.
