Don’t you need graham crackers and chocolate also to make smores?

I wonder what happens when Henry snores? And what happens to the marshmallow and the marshmallow-cooker when he does snore?

This reminded me of two animated cartoons from the late 1950s. In the 1957 Oscar-nominated cartoon One Droopy Knight, Droopy and Butch have to fight a dragon. Butch fails to beat it but Droopy befriends it and ends up roasting something on the dragon’s breath. That was from the Fred Quimby animation studios shortly before it closed down and Hanna-Barbera began making cartoons for TV. One of their early cartoons for TV would be The Huckleberry Hound Show. One cartoon had Huckleberry trying to fight a dragon but losing. In the end, Huckleberry says, “I guess I’ll just have to go back and marry the king’s daughter!” The dragon says, “The king’s daughter! Not that old dragon! I wouldn’t let that happen to my worst enemy. You can stay with me.” The last scene had Huckleberry staying with the dragon and using the dragon’s breath to barbecue food for them both.

S’more is a contraction of the phrase “some more”. A S’more recipe appeared in a Campfire Marshmallows cookbook in the early 1920s, where it was called a “Graham Cracker Sandwich”. A 1956 recipe uses the name “S’Mores”, and lists the ingredients as “a sandwich of two graham crackers, toasted marshmallow, and ½ chocolate bar”.

No reference to Henry the dragon anywhere?

Well, the good news is that you have a nice space heater for the winter, and if you lose power, you can still cook.
