I’ve tried to write my own songs before, but it’s really difficult to come up with an original melody, so all my songs just recycle the melodies of pre-existing songs.

The Book of World Records is no longer recognizing “feats of artistic briefness”. A couple of musicians each playing a single note simultaneously and calling it the world’s shortest concert ruined that for everyone.

The story which could have been a Halloween arc has obviously ended. I hope that we do get a good Halloween arc next week.

Marigold called it a song they were writing, not one they had written.

The late, great jazz pianist Marian McPartland was fond of telling this story about Duke Ellington:

“I remember he made a sort of a subtle criticism,” she says. “He said, ‘Oh, you play so many notes.’ I thought, ’He’s obviously telling me that I’m playing too many notes,’ so from that I kind of eased off a little bit. I was probably showing off.”

Reminds me of “Big Fish,” where a guy had been working on a poem for 12 years and had only three lines to show for it. When questioned about it, he got annoyed and said, “This is why you never share a work in progress.”

I would think that if a unicorn sang a one-note song, the note would be “Mi.”
