Gene seems fixated on having too much to eat. Just get some frozen TV dinners.

One year, long story short, I dropped the turkey.

My husband called for reservations and we all ate out that year :-))

Be thankful you live in a country where you have the freedom to eat whatever you want to at Thanksgiving. One year, we went to the football game and had hot dogs. Another year, we got our turkey meal from a restaurant. You don’t have to “slave over an oven”…

A week slaving over a stove? You bake the pies the night before. Don’t even need to wake up early on Thanksgiving day, put the turkey in the oven when you get up and make the dough for the rolls. Dressing, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, cranberries, and veg of choice take relatively little time. Ask a guest or child to fix a salad and relish plate. (Guest or child is also handy for stirring the gravy while it is being made in large cast iron skillet with the turkey drippings.)

Hey Donna, remember last year when Kyle made a delicious turkey and then you and Janine wasted it out of jealousy? Yeah, I’m calling your bluff on this one. After the stunt you pulled, you’re the last person to complain about cooking.

We have found the secret to our good Thanksgivings is split up the tasks and spread the work out over time. The cranberry sauce can be made several days ahead and other things can be prepped so that on the day of the feast it can all be put together without too much unexpected difficulty. And next year switch up who does what keeping in mind who does not want to do what.

Pu-lease! I put the brined turkey in over in the morning, desserts were made days ago, casseroles day or two ago, somebody else brings salad & rice, BYOB, gravy and a couple of sides bought from a restaurant day before. If you’re too busy to feed the kids beforehand, they love pb&j.

Well, we saw what happened last year when the lads tried to fix Thanksgiving dinner. And what with the price of turkeys under Bidenomics, I may go with a ham sandwich this year…

In our family, Mom supplies the recipes, and everybody cooks. If you want to eat on Thanksgiving, you have to cook. Turns out the cooking is the funnest part!

Depends, some parents or guardians enjoy doing this for the kids and family in general, others, particularly working moms, may buy a Thanksgiving dinner or simply enjoy the day to rest and for the most part the rest of the family understands. Others simply get invited to an extended family affair and have only to worry to bring a pie or something potluck style. Some families take the opportunity to enjoy a roadtrip before winter weather sets in during the long weekend.

My mom and I went to a Thanksgiving buffet one year when it was going to be just the two of us, and at the time we congratulated ourselves on such a good idea, got to enjoy a nice dinner without the cooking and the cleanup.

Later that evening, we almost simultaneously realized what a bad idea it was because no leftovers meant no turkey sammiches

My wife always goes nuts and makes enough food to serve the 7th Fleet. I’ve suggested getting dinner catered and the look I’ve gotten would scorch a Butterball.
