Seventy years ago (I am definitely dating myself), my father woul get the biggest mis-shapened tree in the lot and, with a small saw, a brace and bit and some rabbit wire, transform that awkward and ugly tree into a masterpiece of unnatural beauty. He would stand it in the corner so that it leaned on 2 sides against the walls. That HD the added benefit of only decorating the parts of the tree facing outward. A labour of love!
When growing up we had some pretty weird shaped trees!… Many of them looked like “Charlie Brown” trees but as time passed and EVERY tree was trimmed as it grew on farms, I found myself appreciating the natural look of that memorable time of childhood…and on occasions I would go looking for a sad little misinformed tree.. and there were none to be found… just the perfect “tree shaped ones” that looked artificial in their perfectness!!!
My mom’s usual comment was “It’s too big.” We’d remove the lowest and widest branches, and she would put little pieces of them atop the frames of the pictures on all the walls for the season. We preferred a somewhat sparse balsam to a furry fir or stocky Scotch pine, in order to have spaces for the ornaments to hang in. Tinsel had to be hung in shiny bunches like icicles near the trunk, not in messy spidery shreds all over.

Petey has a really creative mind. Also strange tree place there.

“Trunkenstein”! (That shouldn’t work; it was the name of the SCIENTIST!!)

You know, I actually think that is a very cool tree! Very fun to decorate, especially if you were just the teeniest bit stoned.

I love to be that guy, but Frankenstein was the Doctor, not Boris Karloff.

That’s a sad looking tree…but it is the Otterloop’s type of tree. Decorate it nice and hopefully the holes will disappear.

That tree would have looked a LOT better if it was transported with the sawed end forward.

“The Curse of the Killer Christmas Tree” was not the hit Hollywood expected it to be, however!
Pleasant dreams, Alice!

A very Otterloopian tree. An Otterloopian Christmas to all, and to all a sap free night!
Maybe this is what Alice will dream of tonight:
