I bought strings of grain-of-wheat lights with their own batteries. They look quite nice. I just wish they were available as individual light+battery combos
Let’s do the math. Lets go crazy and say 25 cents a kilowatt hour. 6 hours would be $1.50 for ONE kilowatt draw. 200 LEDs draw 10 watts approximately. So if you had 20,000 LEDs that would draw 1000 watts. To do 15 bucks you would need 10 times that or 200,000 LEDs. Now if you stick with incandescents, you might make it at they use 50 times more power. So you would only need 4,000 incandescents. Have a Happy Thanksgiving, all!!
Fifteen dollars a day divided by 10 cents per kilowatt hour equals a total of 150 kilowatt hours. Divide that by the 6 hours of daily use, indicates that those Christmas lights are consuming 25 kilowatts. That would one monstrous display of lights. I believe that the article really ment 15 dollars over the total period.
I’m in the What Would Jesus Do camp. Light a candle! She’s in the Let’s make the dump look like Vegas group. We compromise. Indoor lights. I’m not strapping anything to my gutters anymore – and look like a package goods store.
Greg reminded me of Richard Dreyfuss at the dinner table in Close Encounters. And the look on Teri Garr’s face was about the same as mine reading this little factoid.
$15, presumably for electricity, per day for Christmas lights his hard to believe. That R-BION screams for more details. Assuming the old style incandescent lights, how many lights would be needed to consume $15 worth of electricity in 6 hours?
whatever happened to those randomly twinkling ones I remember from the 50s? I cannot even look at the o,nes that all twink at once, or worse yet, the ones that race around.

Wasn’t Greg Milano ever taught to not play with his food?

What does the number of days have to do with the daily cost of the Christmas lights?

Jews use chopped liver. Gentiles use mashed potatoes.

2013 was the 5th anniversary? Did they put the wrong year, why not say the 15th anniversary?

Thankfully, I only have artificial desktop Christmas trees.

So, Bob Rivers had the right idea about rigging up the lights being one of the twelve pains of Christmas.

I guess no one ever told Greg not to play with his food.

When you spend thousands of dollars on presents for those who could care less, $15,00 is nothing.

Greg’s smashed taters must be really hard…
That $15.00 a day Christmas light bill is way off. Todays lights don’t use that much electricity…

Typical half truths, leaving out what type of bulbs, and how many are we talking about.

What a stupid thing to say! At $15/day it would cost $450 to run them for one month!! I think they’re missing the decimal point….. $1.50/day!

15,000 lights on for 10 1/2 hours a day from Thanksgiving to January 6. Total cost is about $25.00. Have to LOVE LED lights

I can hardly wait till Christmas to find out what Greg does with his potatoes on that occasion.
ekke 12 months ago
Of course, if you only keep them on for, say, Christmas Day, they’ll cost you $15 or more.
Of course, you have to have LOTS of old-style incandescent lights out there …

If Greg Milan stars sculpting his mash potatoes into a replica of Devil’s tower, chances care he’s going on a road trip to Wyoming

Does Mr. Milano then eat the potatoes, or does he throw his sculpture away, thus wasting food?
