Some WallyWorld employees speak little American. Fortunately I found one who had me spell the product name which he then searched on his phone. When he found it he pointed across the store and said, ‘aisle 16’. After searching the aisle for several minutes, I asked another one, and when he pulled out his phone, I said, ‘just forget it. I’ll find it myself. I need the walk.’
I wonder how long it will take people to politicize “click and order” vs. “brick and mortar.”
One the one hand, it does help the local economy to support local businesses.
On the other you have to weigh 100 cars driving on the roads (strain on infrastructure) and burning fuel (strain on environment) with 1 truck (electric) making 100 deliveries.
I think this is an extension of a battle that has been going on for over a hundred years. The general store vs. WalMart. Mom and pop grocery stores vs. supermarkets. The neighborhood, one-screen movie theater vs. the Googleplex.
Things change: remember when every gas station had a mechanic. Now, if it sells gas, it doesn’t repair cars; it if repairs cars, it doesn’t sell gas.
I am fairly certain I would not start my own retail store. I’d either go into some other sort of business, be part of a chain, or “sleep with the enemy:” Etsy. If you can’t beat them, join them.

And, true to his word, he kept his phone in his pocket, next to his heart, for the rest of his days.
