Woman With Sunflower ? Hello! There’s a baby in the painting!

It’s a symbol most missed.

She’s a proud suffragist,

who hopes, one day, all women can vote.

Hippy women names her child Sunflower.

This is you . . . and this is what you’ll look like when you have a child.

I had a relative that took a Christmas photo of her with her naked 2-year old daughter on her lap. She didn’t have a sunflower though.

Thanks, Steve! I’ve loved Mary Cassatt ever since I studied her work in my college Art History classes.

All of us who clicked “Like” for today’s strip have now been listed by Google as suspected pedophiles.

Nuthin says éclat like a brat by Cassatt in the mor-ornin’..

The mother looks truly aghast, as if to say “Oh No……You didn’t?”and the child is about to break into a grin as if to day “Oh Yes I did!”Great work by the artist catching that magic moment just before and awful odor appears seemingly out of nowhere.

See here, darling child, you will never make it in the world of Toddlers and Tiaras if you don’t get rid of that belly fat.

How dare Ms. Cassatt intrude/

On our idyllic interlude?/

The Women’s Suffrage Movement in the U.S.A. adopted the Kansas sunflower and the Maine jonquil (daffodil) as their floral symbols. The daffodil eventually became the flower of choice, because of its size and easy availability.

The red rose became the symbol of the Women’s Anti-Suffrage Movement.

Is that sunflower meant to distract/

From the indisputable fact/

And the painful conclusion/

That this IS an intrusion/

And the artist is lacking in tact?///

Poor mother is visibly shocked/

She’ll be blamed, since the door wasn’t locked/

Her cry of dismay/

Rocked the Champs Élysées:/

“Geez, Mary- you could have knocked ..”

“It’s very cute, sweetie, but let’s get you dressed before… oh. Well, thank goodness my dress is yellow.”

These days that depiction qualifies as kiddie porn, and the artist would be arrested.

Unusual for a child that young to be pregnant. But how else to explain the alarmingly distended abdomen?

Roses are red, sunflowers are yellow, you have a tummy, like a bowl full of jell-o.

Mighty young child to have such a gut. Looks out of proportion. Could the artist have wanted to hide the genital area?
