This is what Newton does every morning—sits on the deck, surveys the yard, and then heads all the way back to the line of shrubs to dispatch any critters (cats, raccoons, bunnies, even a possum once) lurking there.

I have an exception to letting Rover out front without a leash ( Ms. Protective) but I love the way he scratches on the door. So cute!

Rover scratching at the door is so quite it’s almost painful.

We have a dog like that, Maggie. The difference is that her Kingdom is the back yard and all of the back yards in the block. Our house sits at the top of a hill with a view out lower level. From our rear deck Maggie can view into all of the other back yards in the neighborhood. She loves to go out and sit on the landing for the steps that lead down to the yard and survey her kingdom, to the extent that you can tell where she always sits, her throne if you will. If she is not on her throne, then she is lying on the landing with her chin resting on the bottom rail of the deck rail with her kingdom in view.

The other dog, Gidget, just wants any old sunny spot on the deck where she can lay and catch the rays. Pretty much like the Patty Duke character for whom she was named after.

Ella Rose does that, stands on the deck and surveys the field for deer, especially at dawn and dusk, she knows they are out there feeding

one of our labs – Molly Ann – use to go out and walk the interior of the fence line every morning, her sister Heidi Pooh – always looked at her like she was nuts……….Heidi Pooh had the attitude, no sense in barking, Molly Ann will and I’ll still get a cookie, no need to ask for a cookie, MA would do hat also and HP of course got a cookie too, also figured MA would alert if anything in their yard
