Today’s strip reminds me of Eull Gibbons, who was one of my heroes when I was a teenager. Gibbons was famous for his Grape Nuts commercial (“Did you ever eat a pine tree?” {Check it out on YouTube}). I came home from school one day and my dad asked me if I’d hear about Gibbons dying. I hadn’t of course as this was long before cellphones everywhere. I asked Dad what the cause was and Dad said, “Natural causes”. I told Dad I didn’t find that to be a funny joke. So we waited until the half hour to hear the news round-up on the radio and it wasn’t a joke.

Reminds me of the phrase, If a wood chuck could chuck wood, how much wood, would a wood chuck chuck, if a wood chuck could chuck wood.

Is the tree’s bark as bad as his bite?

Back in the time of Euell Gibbons, I had an angry friend yell at me “Aw go eat trees!”

CB got quite a bite on him.

I didn’t think Chuck wood do it.

One wonders why he didn’t try this on some of his, er, “friends.”

CB proved that he wasn’t wishy-washy all the time!

Charlie may need to come up with another nickel & pay a visit to Lucy and talk about biting a tree. How does that make you feel CB?

Chuck’s teeth must be made of a sturdier stuff.

One more bite like that Charlie, and you could take the whole tree down and get your kite back.

“Honey, the kid’s outside, and he’s biting the trees. Are you going to do something?”

A human taking a bite from a tree doesn’t taste good.

He actually did it. He bit the kite eating tree. That must’ve been really painful.

So, now we know why he is sometimes called Chuck. He could also be called Beaver. Wow. Those are a great set of choppers. I should be so lucky.

I’ve heard of high fiber diets, but this is ridiculous.
