Well, I guess it will be a few more years before the pigs start beating protesters for daring to demand a slice of the economic pie. And a few years later for them to start whacking on black folks for daring to resent the pigs shooting ’em.

Leaving the comfortably EX hippie to have a nice little chuckle over the youths’ having the presumption to carry on HIS generation’s proprietary tradition of political protest.

I lived in a student town where there were demonstrations during the Viet Nam War. The problem is that few people knew what they wanted or had reasonable expectations. At one point, the local community advisory board, voted to SECEDE FROM THE UNITED STATES, if we did not get out of Cambodia in 30 days. (Delusional much?)

There were peaceful demonstrations by more serious people. One of my roommates, along with professors and other community leaders, was dragged away by police from such a demonstration, held in an UNFINISHED jail overnight with 300 other people (far in excess of capacity) with no provision for contact lenses or other medical problems. I put up bail and had to wait all night for his release. The police moved those who had posted bail out of the jail building in the middle of the cool night (we were still dressed for warm weather) and we had to wait many hours outside.

All charges were subsequently dropped against the demonstrators. It took three months for us to get our bail money back.

Plenty of screwy people on both sides.

Nor before — for that matter.

Pretty much the same as in the ‘60s. They didn’t really know, either.

They had a real beef with him.

Singing songs and carrying signs. Mostly say “Hooray for our side”…….

To think his uncle had to smoke a lot of pot to get that way.

In the sixties, when protesters in the U.S. were chanting “Off the Pigs!”, those in France were chanting “Mort aux Vaches!”
