I’m guessing this strip ran before that particular nursery rhyme’s problematic history became more widely known.

Tyger Tyger, burning bright, Foolish Calvin you will smite

You’d think that by now Calvin would have learned to NEVER disturb a sleeping tiger. BTW, how is he gonna explain his physical state to Mom and Dad??

Reminds me of the Buck Owens song;

I’ve got a tiger by the tail, it’s plain to see, I won’t be much when you get through with me, Well, I’m losing weight and turnin’ mighty pale, Looks like I’ve got a tiger by the tail

Well, that potential revenue stream evaporated quickly.

People who think Tigers and Tiggers are the same thing.

This is one of my favorite strips. It takes the one ryhme, “Eeny meenie miny moe, catch a tiger my his toe” and puts it into Calvin and Hobbes. 10/10

Hobbes: “Ah, so you have chosen a painful death.”

Calvin gets his * kicked! Truly, it’s best to avoid honking Hobbes off…

If you want to pull the tail of the tiger, you better have a plan for dealing with the teeth

Most people learn from experience. Cal never seems to get to that point.

Not as bad as the original rhyme.

Who writes them, Calvin? Likely people who never had somebody like Hobbes in their life.

Never heard of anyone catching a tiger by the toe, but Buck Owens sang about having a tiger by the tail.

Written by people who are probably smarter than Calvin.

All of a sudden I remember my family changing it to Tigger from Winnie the Pooh whenever they did this rhyme with me as a child.

Forgive the political talk, but I remember doing eenie-meenie-miney-moe when voting in the 2016 Presidential election, since both candidates didn’t appeal to me.
