Several years ago Cosmo Fishhawk got his line all tangled up in a bird’s-nest mess trying to cast his bait, upon which a fish poked his head out of the water and said to him: “Nice cast, you wuss!” It was the first time I encountered the term; I thought it was a great self-explanatory expression of sarcasm, and it remains my favourite to this day.
