Trick question: it started in 1812, but was fought through 1815.

I get the same blank stare when I ask kids that same question. Seems that the democrats have succeeded in their quest to dumb down the population.

For Peter it won’t even be multiple choice—multiple guess, yes.

The war of 1812 wasn’t fought in 1812, it started in 1812. Peace terms were agreed on in 1814, but not officially ratified until 1815, which is when the war officially ended.

    Some more history trivia…

The Hundred Years War lasted 116 years.

The United States celebrates its independence on July 4, which is the date the Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776. But the American Revolutionary War actually started on April 19, 1775, and didn’t end until September 3, 1783. So, when did the USA really become independent, when the war started, when the war ended, or somewhere in between?

WWII hasn’t officially ended, since no peace treaty between the Soviet Union and Japan was ever signed. (The Soviet union doesn’t exist any more, but Putin seems intent on reviving it. )

More interesting question: how long was the hundred years war? (Extra points if you answer with “which one?”)

Peter adopted Henry Ford idea that history was “bunk” so he decided to sleep on it!

The Treaty of Ghent, that ended the war of 1812, was signed in 1814. The last significant battle of the war, the Battle of New Orleans, was fought in 1815.Napoleon was sent to exile on Elba in 1814. He was defeated in the Battle of Waterloo in 1815.Apparently time ran backward for a while a couple of centuries ago.

There are videos on YouTube where an interviewer asks college students questions like this, this exact question in fact, and they get it wrong or don’t know it, or any of the answers!
