A trained dog will walk to the side and just behind its master, This is why women are taught in certain circles to walk two feet behind the men as they are inferior.
Problem with Earl not going with him…what if a mean dog attacks him! That happened to my dog a week ago when on a leash! If I hadn’t been there to kick the other dog and yell at him (while their owner sat back and watched from afar), my dog is way smaller and non threatening, scary! He’s been attacked before, almost didn’t live through it!
I knew a dog that did this, as long as the leash was hooked to his collar he’d walk with his owner with the other end in his mouth. If the leash was unhooked he would take off running.
We lived in a townhouse complex 30 some years ago and we had some great neighbors. One in particular owned a beautiful and friendly Golden Retriever named Stash. The owner took him and his son for a walk. The dog was unleashed. They crossed a busy street but Stash hesistated. When he decided to come over he got hit by a car and you know the rest. Very sad to think about even to this day!
Some dog owners have an overly optimistic idea of their dog’s behavior. Like the ones who say they “don’t bark.” Right, they don’t bark when you’re around.

That’s right, Roscoe, Earl is a heel and you’re a good boy.

I have actually seen a video of a man walking three dogs, two of which got away from him and the third dog retrieved first one and then the other!

I am impressed by some dog owners that have patiently trained their dog to walk beside them sans leash.

And Opal can (nearly) trust Earl to hold his own leash to walk himself.

I wonder if he will feel like it after the hundred dollar fine for leaving his dog unattended.

Tummy rubs are just not the same. And the excited reaction when rolling in ‘something’.

My dog would be two blocks away in a flash! That’s why he stays on the leash close by.

My baby brother was known to put the collar on himself & the leash in the dog’s mouth, and go for a run.
