After the GOP blocked a repeal of the law for the third time, the MAGA sycophants at FOX “News” are still bleating that “it’s all the fault of the Democrats” because the Governor and AG are Democrats.
Another prickly republican concept. Confederate slaver Republicans refuse to let the USA progress and want to drag us back to the Civil War era which they lost but never forgave.
In 1864, it was legal to own people. Are they going to bring that one back as well? Maybe they can disband the state of Arizona since it didn’t exist in 1864. Just make it a territory again without any legal representation.
There is a better than 50 / 50 chance the Supreme Court will reinstate the 1873 Comstock Act which will outlaw interstate movement of “obscene” print materials (including birth control information), birth control and abortion pharmaceuticals.
Makes sense. It takes years, decades to even get a little cactus (a saguaro, to be exact). In AZ the law never went away but the GOP, in all its fecal glory, resuscitated a dead law. Now we get to resuscitate women dying of unviable pregnancies and botched back-alley abortions. Right wing politics are anti-woman and anti-life.
Good Morning everyone! Another rainy day. Had a crazy dream last night, trump was on trial in New York city. Wow. Musta been the mushroom pizza, it always does that.
It blows my mind that they are enforcing a law on a state that wasn’t a state back when the law was written/ enacted. WTF? These people really are insane.
Perhaps I need another coffee but with only one cup I.. do not see the connection between a cactus, a snake.. the 1864 law, a few rodents, a billy goat and a lonely cowboy on a horse with a banjo.
The abortion issue isn’t even about abortion. The real point is that if they can take away a right that has been in place for over fifty years, what rights are they coming after next?
Conservatives are the ones who want to dictate total control over private relationships (dictate who you can or can’t marry or even what behavior is allowed behind closed doors), private medical choices (reproductive choices such as abortion, IVF or contraception, medical or recreational marijuana, end of life choices, stem cell therapies, gender-identity care), tell us what books we or our children can have access to, or try to force PRIVATE religion into PUBLIC policy and religious rituals into public meetings or subsidize it with special tax advantages (socialized religion).
Thank dog for keyboard protectors. A serious subject and Mr Jones uses his gifts to point out the absurdity of the situation to make it laughable. Well done.
It should be pointed out that this “Law” was penned by a territorial governor appointed by the existing president at the time – no deliberative body wrote the law – it sprang ONLY from the head of as single individual at a time where half the state supported the “OWNING” of another person!

Poor pizza-less rat, remember the pizza we know and love today, with its tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, and toppings, was first created in 1889.

What law or set of laws governed this issue before reactionaries looked under a rock, and found this 1864 law (and themselves)?

I’m not sure I understand what Clay is going for in this cartoon. Although I absolutley agree with the comment about the dam law.
