It isn’t lawfare when the perp has actually committed crimes. The trumpers want this to be a Banana Republic, where the rich and powerful do not get prosecuted for their crimes.
At least soldiers throwing themselves on grenades are saving ones who know and care about the sacrifice they’re making. Perp45, not so much with all the MAGAt media, cartoonists, and public who continue doing this to “save his reputation”.
This is very Trumpian in that you accuse others of doing exactly what you are doing. Trump has said repeatedly he will go after political rivals with arrests — because they are political rivals. Biden has stayed far away from the Trump legal mess — which was already a mess even before he became president. Remember, Trump has a decades-long track record of legal problems because he has always been a crook. It’s just that he’s a rich crook and therefore has been given the kid gloves treatment his whole life.
Look out MAGA folks. You might get what you’re wishing for: real lawfare — not real justice — is what’s in store for you if Trump gets elected in November.
Only vile nazi’s and scum use frivolous lawsuits and lawfare against their opponents. Trump once said he would put Hillary in prison, but I actually understand why he didn’t. HOWEVER, now that the Democrats have taken the gloves off, I will expect nothing less.
^^ Agree. The genie is already out of the bottle. When the Republicans regain power, as in time they inevitably will, they’ll come for their political opponents. The legal branch of our country has been weaponized against the executive and legislative branches and inevitably, itself.
Steve Kelly appears to believe rich people, even those who just proclaim that they are rich, should be exempt from following laws. Or is it just criminal candidates he supports? “Rob a bank and if you run for office”, says Kelly should prevent you being convicted!
This talk of “lawfare” is pure BS. Four different grand juries composed our fellow Americans in different jurisdictions have indicted Trump for crimes they feel he has committed. If you can’t do the time don’t do the crime.
Yesterday’s courtroom testimony was excessive and should have been objected to by Trump’s lawyers. However, they chose not to intervene. It ended up being the judge who made the witness move on. The Trump legal team then tried to have a mistrial declared over the same testimony they refused to stop. Sorry, you can’t have it both ways.
I don’t hate the conservative commentators on this and other sites. In fact, if we met in person over a cup of coffee, we might have a lot to agree on and enjoy a conversation. It is the anonymous nature of sites like this that lets the id run wild and divide us. All that said, I can’t see why anyone would want Trump to lead our country. Trump is morally depraved and represents the absolute worst of human nature. You may have fundamental policy differences with President Biden, but at the end of the day, he is a good man. You can’t say the same thing about Trump; there are no redeeming characteristics in that man, and he represents the absolute worst of us.
Republicans have a crucial opportunity at their convention to select a candidate who won’t cause embarrassment. The world is watching, and history will remember this decision. It’s imperative that they choose wisely, for the sake of the party and the country.
Mr. Trump has spent the last 8 years threatening prosecution of his political opponents. To the right, that is not “lawfare”, but righteousness. But when Mr. Trump is on the other side of the docket for things that actually happened, well, that’s wrong.
This is a direct insult to the good Americans doing their civic duty sitting on grand juries and criminal court juries. Kelley, do you hate good Americans this much?
Oh sure, call it lawfare when legimate proceeding are happening and T-rump is facing the consequences of HIS OWN ACTIONS, but ignore all his cries of “lock her up” during his rallies and his own incitement of incurrection.
You’ll notice that neither SKelley, nor the other MAGAt commenters claim that Trump did NOT do the crimes he’s accused of. Only that he should never be prosecuted for them.
Trump has promised to use Lawfare against his political enemies, translated as the democratic party. He says Biden will be punished. Insurrectionist anti democracy Republicans are totally prejudiced and don’t believe in the rule of law.
And if any of these cases were rushed the cry would be they were rushed. This reminds me of sports casters who complain about fouls being called at the end of a tight game, complaining that the players should decide the game. Following that logic, they are arguing that a foul in the first 38 or 46 or 58 minutes is a foul, but the same act in the last two minutes if not a foul. Did Trump break the law? Grand juries looked at the facts and said yes. He either did or he did not. If he truly believes he did not, hurry up, get to trial, win, and use that in the election.

So, using the law to attack a criminal is bad, but setting aside the law to do crime is OK. Of course, silly me.

It is unsettling to read global news headlines with Biden’s name to be more scary than the national headlines containing Trump’s name.

Lawfare – A weapon to be used by democrats when their message doesn’t resonate with enough people to get them across the finish line.
