I used to love September as my birth month—until I turned a certain age. Now I am starting to resent it even if Fall starts on the day.

My sentiments exactly…But I always preferred the time after the autumnal equinox: “I am the Fall. I am the synthesis of seasons…” (from an essay I wrote as a teenager.)

Getting ready for hunting season, the weekend warriors start appearing. National Forest living, just have to put up with it for a while. And have plenty of purple paint.

Nicest month of the year where I live. My only problem with September is that it doesn’t last longer.

I like February best, here in Virginia, curled up in a knothole in a tree, comfy and safe. It is the month of “bright winter”, and the most frequent snow, quiet and crisp, but not too cold. It inspires hope for times of want: Snow drops and witch hazel have the garden to themselves, foreshadowing great abundance. A few buried acorns remain uneaten.
