If that’s Lowly Worm on the cover of the book in the 2d panel (and Ruben loves Richard Scarry), then who stole his Tyrolean hat? Or is it just a dinosaur?

Obviously, the 10 Cs aren’t the basis of our laws: they punish thoughts and beliefs, contrary to modern concepts of justice. That’s why it’s not illegal to covet your neighbor’s wife’s a(ss) (parens to evade the censor).

This is going to blow up when someone realizes they now have to explain what “adultery” is to first graders.

I went to parochial school and although we didn’t have the 10 Demandments posted in the classroom, we did have a large cross with a crucified Christ. When I was a First-grader, I remember thinking, " If I screw up, this could happen to me…"

Louisiana has long been rated as in the top two or three most corrupt states in the U.S. so it’s no suprise that they would pass crap like this. Corruption and psuedo-holiness go hand-in-hand.

I’d like to see fundamentalist parents explaining to their six-year-old what adultery means.

If one of the kids ate a worm or a bug, they’d also be violating one of the Seven Laws of Noah: Don’t eat anything that isn’t dead yet.

The problem with the “ten commandments” is that the two versions of them, in Exod, xx and Exod. xxxiv, are quite different.

Every school is going to be a religious charter school soon with no education for most kids because those will be needed to do a bunch of jobs. This is the Fascist Republican dream.

The 10 Commandments are plagiarized and dumbed down from the Code of Hammurabi . Except for the ones about God. They are just short reminders of the expected behaviors of civilized people; no stealing, no killing, obey your elders etc. All the legalist stuff comes later in Deuteronomy. That’s where al the stoning and other executions for going outside the tribal law were written down. To get the full effect of total fear and absolute respect for the lawgivers one needs to include at least that part of the Bible.

We’ve all heard the joke about the Irish priest who was looking for his bike and suddenly remembered where he left it while reflecting on the seventh commandment.

Should we tell the kids the penalty for violating the 4th Commandment and working on the sabbath? “…Anyone who does work on that day shall be put to death.” (Exodus 35:2) That should keep them in Sunday school.

You’ve got to be taught to hate and fear, You’ve got to be taught from year to year, It’s got to be drummed in your dear little ear, You’ve got to be carefully taught.

    William Tabbert, South Pacific 1949

While the song is ostensibly about race, it seems to apply here as well.

I’m a Pastafarian. Posting the 10 commandments violates my rights. The only dogma allowed in the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is the rejection of dogma.

Follow the grownups’ example – just because the Ten Commandments are posted doesn’t mean you have to obey them…
