Thank you, Garry—for giving us a non-political Sunday strip this week.

Dear self, when did everyone get old. Oh yeah, so did I…sigh.

Two weeks later and we’re still not recognizing the election, eh?

Looking at these absolutely hilarious but shocking proposed appointments by trump: [e.g., RFK jr appointment and what that would do to public health; Gaetz to head DOJ (he’s promised to “burn down the DOJ from the inside”); Gabbard, another Russian stooge with no qualifications to be Director of National Intelligence; and Musk to head a new “Department of Government Efficiency (and has discussed huge cuts and elimination of major components of the federal government, Hegseth a racist christofascist for SoD], one has to seriously consider whether trump is trying to harm the United States.

These appointments are so extreme, it opens the door to serious questions. For example, if one were working to advance the interests of putin, wouldn’t these appointments be consistent with an objective to greatly destabilize and weaken the U.S.?

And/or that a malignant narcissist who felt persecuted(justifiably prosecuted) by the federal government would make these appointments in a fit of anger to strike back at the entirety of his hated “deep state”?

Given the enormity of the potential harm to the U.S. from these and other similar actions, one might argue that Biden could justifiably arrest trump as a threat to national security… and the Supreme Court should say it would be ok, given their recent decision on presidential immunity.

What was the point of that comic? Pretending the problems are going to go away? Or just the lead time problem again?

Shouldn’t they all be retired? They were in the same class at Walden years ago…

Not only is Mike retired but the rest of tbe crew could be. Except due to lower financial realities they have to keep working. Your Doonesbury is great whether it is about our politics of today or just life in general. I do love your outlook on our politics! Any chance y o u would consider going back to writing new daily Doonesburys?

I don’t know who inks the strip these days , but years ago I met the person who was currently inking it at a comics convention. And I went to a book signing by Trudeau himself later.

How are my distraught over-educated white wealthy liberal friends doing today? Trump is about ready to burn it all down. It must sting like the dickens.

I compared todays comments with that of a November strip of 2020 and I have to say, “left-wingers” back then didn’t gloat nearly as much as “right-wingers” are gloating now. So we have that much going for us, anyway. It makes me wonder, is one required to be an arrogant condescending [REDACTED] to be a “right-winger” or does being a “right-winger,” in direct contrast, turn one INTO an arrogant, condescending [REDACTED]? Because that’s the only kind of “right-winger” I’ve encountered on this forum for the past few days. :-|

Mike needs special training in being retired.

Plenty of conservatives and moderates ALSO voted against Trump, of course. The eligible voters who sat out the election likely would have voted for Harris in greater numbers than for Trump.

The “MAGA Mafia” will be in full control of the U.S. government on January 20, 2025. The millions of dollars spent by the wealthy to prevent paying their fair share was apparently a good investment for them.

They sent out a media blitz of lies that swayed voters to believe that the man who single-handedly bankrupted his business six times was better for the economy and the person who was advocating mass deportations was “on their side”. The only people talking about Trans people were Republicans, who lied about the Democrats’ position when Trump’s administration put the rule in place that everyone was freaking out about.

Neither President Biden nor Vice President Harris are to blame for this disaster.The blame lies squarely on the electorate. This includes anyone who did not vote for Harris.

—Those who voted for Trump,

—Those who voted for a 3rd party candidate,

—Those who entered a write-in name like their father (I see you, Chris Cuomo.)

—Those who voted for issues that were supported by Biden/Harris but voted against Harris.

—Those who voted for downstream Democrats and left the presidential vote blank,

—Those who stayed home and didn’t vote at all,

The responsibility is yours and you must own it, for better or for worse. “I told you so.” won’t seem like enough when the MAGA voters start feeling the effects of their folly.

The rest of us who did vote for Harris are probably in better position to ride the wave of chaos coming because we are under no illusions that Trump is on anyone’s side but his own.

—Look for opportunities to make a difference and then ACT.

—Boycott any businesses that are run by MAGA supporters.

—Band together to protect each other. (A bundle of sticks is much harder to break than single sticks alone.)

—Keep speaking out against the craziness.

—Don’t give up. Persistence is what will save us.
