Flying into O’Hare years ago, every time we went around in the holding pattern, we went through a lightning storm. I was helping a stewardess (correct word for the era) wrestle a passed-out, pie-eyed drunk military guy into an upright position so she could get his seat belt on. Fun.
For weeks I’ve had an eye appointment scheduled today in Carson City Nv – an 8 hour round trip – and the weather forecast has just changed from mild to 55 mph winds. Extra food, water, clothes and blankets already in the car, it just takes one overturned truck to shut down the highway.
Went through some clear air turbulence while walking through the cargo compartment doing a mid-flight cargo check in a KC-135 and got bounced all around before I was able to get a good grip on a cargo strap and steady myself. It was a whole lot of fun being a human ping-pong ball.
I’ve heard of taking babies for a ride to help them sleep. I’ve done it with my dogs. Perhaps a nice quiet ride around the airport before takeoff will help the passengers.

And if everybody is asleep, it’s easier for the flight attendants.

Turbulence would be preferable to flying into Port Au Prince on Spirit.

Better yet, take the hallucinogens, tripping while you’re on a trip is truly a trip man.

I’ve flown in Cessna 172s, you don’t know turbulence until you’ve flown in a small plane.

The most turbulent flight I was ever on, was my first. I was afraid that was normal.
