Crossing fingers, toes, and eyes that all of our stalwart crew will survive this. Including/especially Duffy. Initially he was written as an arrogant spoiled brat who wasn’t very likeable, but he’s grown up quite a bit since we were introduced to him.
Desperate times call for desperate measures, but shouldn’t they save those bullets for when they count for something? Sticks and rocks would be more effective it seems. Hopefully Duffy has become a crack shot.
I’m really surprised that the Zero Gun’s AI chose to fire on what would surely be seen as its rescuers. Hmm. I have to revise my suspicion that the gun had been talking silently to the airship via radio and calling it back to be rescued from the infected Cardoodles that were carrying it. I also have to revise my opinion of the Gun’s AI. Has it really thrown in with “the enemy” at this point? I wouldn’t have believed its programming allowed it that amount of leeway in its thinking.
The defenders are now engulfed… and some mutts are headed for the boats… time for the defenders to run for the boats… I hope they can swim and the mutts cannot.
The scene in the second panel brings back memories of Disney’s final scenes of Davy Crockett at the Alamo. Unable to reload, just using the rifle as a club … with less much success than Davy…
Are those different ray beams shown in panel 4? The previous strips are not showing any indications of the passage of bullets. The Zero gun has a broad beam, and is in Duffy’s hands. Those appear to be Duffy’s legs as he is running forward (and away from our viewpoint). So he’d be firing away from us (as he is in panel 3). So…is someone or something else firing a different weapon?

It is awfully quiet for how loud the picture is.

The plot thickens – well, the crowd of mutts does, at any event

One down. A million more to go. The MUTTs are just ignoring them, except for trampling the defenders by sheer numbers.

Yep. In all previous realities Wally dies here. Interesting.

That looks like an elbow in the lower right of the last panel. There are casualties.
