LED lights designed to run on 3 AA batteries may be modified to have a USB connector for the power of them, rather then constantly replacing the batteries. Also the +5 volts of the USB is very safe to touch and handle.
I once worked in a steel foundry where there was an electrician in Maintenance who was a real whack job. He would actually talk to the equipment he was going to work on and say “When I get done wiring you, you are going to work, aren’t you?” One day he had to shut off the juice to a piece of equipment. He tracked the conduit back to where he thought the fuse box was, pulled the switch down and locked out the box. He then went to the junction box where the piece of equipment was wired in and, instead of taking a reading with his meter to see if the connection was dead, he reached in and was promptly knocked on his butt by about 440 volts. He shook his head and said “There just can’t be any juice there!”. He stood up, reached in and was promptly knocked on his butt again. Again he said “There just can’t be any juice there!” and got up for a third go round. It was at that point that a foreman ran up, threw his arms around him and said “Stop it, _________. You’re going to kill yourself. There is obviously juice there because it has knocked you on your butt twice. Find another fuse box to lock out because that is not the one.” He was finally sent to prison (or the funny farm, I don’t remember which) for driving up to a McDonalds drive in window and tossing a dummy (Army training) hand grenade through the window. When they raided his house to check for more stuff they found a fully automatic, unregistered Thompson sub-machine gun. I never heard what happened to him after his incarceration.

At this point Jon should probably pay someone else to put the lights up, it never seems to end well for him

When you’re stupid enough to do it twice, do the world a favor and put your hand in the water bowl when you go for 3.

A “short” should pop a circuit breaker. Unless Jon is the short, then Jon takes the hit and “pops” when he lets go.

You should always let an electrician check out your shorts.

I don’t think the short is in the Christmas lights.
