A lot of blackouts during that war to help prevent enemy bombers to know where precisely to drop their loads, like a firestrike toileting session. Tracy’s looking good ! :-)
Ah, I apologize for saying the clock face was too large. I was assuming it had a clock-face on all four sides. Off the top of my head I can’t recall the largest singular clock-face.
(Wikipedia’s list of largest clock faces include a lot of things that aren’t on towers – freestanding or horizontal rather than vertical, but the 1933 Duquesne Brewery clock is interesting for being wider than the tower it’s on and is still the largest single-sided clock tower in the US.)
1- INSPECTOR: We’ll probably still go ahead and blow up the clock tower even though our demolition expert was murdered under the watchful gaze of that Transit Cop. Kids today can’t read an analog clock anyway. Say – did you know that…
2- : …that the clockface is coated in uranium to make it glow at night? That’s why it hasn’t worked for years…
3- : …The last 3 repairmen that tried to fix it died from radiation poisoning within hours of being up there to look it over. DT: But you were going to blow it up??? INSPECTOR: We were going to have Sprengstoff use enough explosive to spread it all over town. That way there wouldn’t be dangerous concentrations anywhere. It would a been years before the impact on kid’s health would’ve been noticed. And prevailing winds would’ve kept it from the important folks’ neighborhoods. DT: Like Tracyville Gardens where I live?
INSPECTOR: Yeah. Would’ve. But now we’ll have to take it down by hand and we’ve got permission to bury it in the gardens that give that area its name! Should make for some interesting plant life. Or none – ever again… DT: Excuse me. I gotta call a realtor…

Too bad the tower clock isn’t an alarm clock. This story needs something to wake everybody up.

Good morning™, all!
If the clock hasn’t worked since World War 2, it’s been broken since before the clock in Back to the Future.
