We’re the opposites. I’m the one pushing to bring the tree up from the basement, make room for it, and get it up. My Janis is the one trying to not rush things.
Janis is absolutely correct. It is very late this year and there isn’t much time. On this date 10 years ago it wasn’t very late, so she is displaying what happens to us all as the years of our lives mount up. The interval between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Eve shrinks year by year. Time’s a wasting. We need to get a move on. And besides, the grandkids won’t mind if our tree is up early.
I see many Xmas decorations up already. I just pull out 2 projectors and lit tree outside. I have a small tree inside that is already with lights and ornaments, takes a couple of minutes to set up.
My wife has the house decorated early this year before Thanksgiving I think she is on the same schedule as all the big box stores. But Arlo’s attic is still full of junk so I guess the move is off.
Ours will have to wait a week. Son’s family down for the week and my wife insisted we spend the last two weeks cleaning. Now you can’t even tell and the whole family will be here tomorrow. There just isn’t room for even a tree.
Smart man that Arlo. No sense in trying to be the immovable object against the irresistible force of your wife. Knows when to pick and choose his battles…
I understand her logic here. The second week of December comes on the eighth which is the earliest the second week can come. I rest my case. Girl logic, indeed! Pshaw!
We put up the outside lights this past week. They are on the bushes/trees in front of house as we are both on the short side & don’t like to climb on ladders. We have a large open space in the center of the front of the left side of house & this year he decided we need some Christmas decoration that lights up there, but has to leave enough room to access the waterspout behind where they would be. He has been looking.
Have to clean up from Thanksgiving (tableware etc are still out waiting to put back) before we start on Christmas and, as this year has been in general, wacky things keep popping up which have to dealt with IMMEDIATELY. Today we got one non-holiday chore finished – took our paperwork to our county office for our senior real estate tax partial exemption. I walk it in rather than mailing it as last time we mailed it – they said they did not get it and we had to reprint the entire thing (around 100 pages) and walk it in, so we just walk it in now to be sure they received it. He waits in the car as hard to find a parking space and I take the papers in.
Probably late this week or next week I will get started on our Christmas trees – yes, plural. Our main tree is general ornaments and goes up in our living room. One year I put a small tree upstairs with only (some of) the bear ornaments on it – now we do it regularly and it is setup in a year round teddy bear village – change it 11 items a year to match the month coming (though it is still mostly in last year’s Christmas – not a good year). We also decided to setup a small tree in our dining room, which is decorated colonial, with brass ornaments we receive from Colonial Williamsburg. And we set up a small tree in our studio where it is easily seen from the kitchen with ornaments we have made. The main tree has some ornaments which represent what is on each of the other trees.

Unassailable, yes. Experience has taught him that. True? Not so much.

And when Janis says “We should bring down the tree decorations….” she means you, Arlo.

We go from T-Day to my wife’s January birthday. Our neighbor turned their “holiday” lights on before Halloween.

I see in TV and movies where people put their tree up on Christmas Eve. Why bother for just one day???

To me, bring down means the same thing as take down. Have they been up all year? Let them stay up until after Christmas.

Let her go, Arlo. The lead-up to Christmas is the most enjoyable time, so go ahead and jump in early!
