Yes. Advertisements cost much more per screen time than the shows they interrupt.

Don’t know if they should be, Leroy—but they are! Watch some of the great “oldies” on MeTV: ALL IN THE FAMILY, THE HONEYMOONERS, etc.

Sure, why not? The sitcoms owe their existence to the commercial sponsors, in first-run as well as reruns.

I don’t watch commercials. I switch channels when one comes on.

The ads on You Tube are some of the best. Hilarious lies. The same device is shown in several to have been invented by different people. All are being banned by main stream companies. They have all sold millions and you get a 50% off deal if you act rashly, er, I mean fast.

Maybe 20, 25 years ago they would have tried. From the late 00s on, the advent of the DVR, On Demand viewing, and later, premium subscriptions to streaming services have meant that viewers with the most disposable income are much harder to reach with commercials. So I do think they put less effort into making them.

Commercials? What’s a commercial? I haven’t watched one since getting my first VCR back in ’87. Try to force any on me and I just won’t watch your program.

Used to be. For a short while they broadcast the Clio Awards with commercials from around the world and some of them were hilarious. I think they found that humor doesn’t actually sell product.

IMHO, commercials tend to be more watchable over sitcoms as they don’t force feed a laugh-track into your ears.
