Oh heck, there’s nothing left. And boy was this strip an unfortunate draw. Nobody caught this in time to pull it?

GT ought to consider doing a Sunday strip focusing on those mansions now in fiery ashes. And Zonker’s reaction, if he remembers this current story arc.

it is a crime to disallow access to the beach.. a crime against nature and human nature.. and those mansion owners are only around like a week or two a year so it’s like “grabbing all i can for me and you can’t have any, even if i am not using it.”

    A rich man’s last words…“It’s mine, all mine!…..urrhhhh…”

We are overdue for a revolution. Latest insult; tolls to drive in certain city areas. First the cities, then the highways.

I like Oregon. A beaches there are public property, so no one can fence off access to the beach.

Erie, PA. Entrance to Presque Isle. On the lake side there used to stand a restaurant and club with free beach access that you could drive on. It was a great place to spend a summer evening. Until the 1980s when local gov’t sold us out, allowed the club to be demolished and condos erected on our beach. They’re still there.

Plenty of access to the water now after fire took out most of the Malibu mansions. Terrible.

Our small town, South Haven, on Lake Michigan really screwed up almost a decade ago. The homes on the road also owned the land across the road down to the water. These land owners allowed the city to use the shore line as a city beach for many decades. Then someone build a house on a lot a little further down the beach. The stupid city government saw this as an opportunity to jack up the tax assessment for all these empty lots that were being used by the city for a beach. Well when this happened the home owners told the city they were going to sell those lots for big money, bye bye beach. City ended up having to buy the land for several hundreds of thousands of dollars per lot, to save the beach. Government is just stupid.

Music mogul David Geffen’s former Malibu mansion is one of the many beachfront homes to be decimated by the Palisades fire.

The 81-year-old music mogul sold his iconic home – which sits on an estate previously owned by Doris Day – in 2017 for a whopping $85 million.

He received permits to bulid the home in 1983 under the condition that he would bulit a public pathway to the beach, though he failed to do so, filing a lawsuit in 2002 to block public access altogether.

Following a three-year legal battle, he conceded to build a public path in 2005 that was dubbed the ‘most famous Malibu beach battle.’

Alas, the stretch of Pacific Coast Highway near Malibu has suffered GREATLY in the fires the last several days. All along the shoreline, there are places where houses USED to be.
