Long time ago, I lived in Houston in a non-A/C house. Going into businesses was very hard on my body: I pretty much had a head-cold all summer, or just recovering. Stupid to have to put on a jacket in 90º temps to go into a 62º bank lobby.

Weather is a great gift for some people —

It gives them something that they can always complain about.

Yes, summer does have regular temperature swings. But 90 – 60 feels better than 40 – 10.

I always have a sweater when grocery shopping. Those places are ridiculously cold during the summer.

I live in Kansas, so warm days during the winter have always been a thing. I didn’t know that Michigan deals with the same thing.

62 sounds like a pretty cold temp to keep A/C. Most of the places around here keep it at about 78 (F).

From : "Heat-related deaths are a significant cause of mortality in the United States. According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), heat has historically been the leading cause of weather-related fatalities in the US, with more fatalities occurring due to heat than other natural disasters.

“Recent statistics show that the number of heat-related deaths is increasing. In 2021, there were 1,600 heat-related deaths reported in the US, with nine states accounting for over 75% of those deaths. Arizona had the highest rate of heat-related deaths, followed by Nevada, Oregon, Washington, and Louisiana.

“Overall, it is estimated that heat kills about 1,220 people each year in the United States. Between 1979 and 2022, more than 14,000 Americans have died directly from heat-related causes, according to death certificates.”

    Life without AC:

The ideal temperature is defined as 20°C (68°F).

If it’s closer to the ideal outside than inside, open the windows.

If it’s closer to the ideal inside than outside, close the windows.

I grocery shop at the two nearest markets to my home, the nearer one always has the AC cranked up and you feel the cold especially around open displays like the cheese wall. I prefer going to the other more since they have most refrigerated stuff behind glass doors and they have better prices overall.
