Many adults don’t know what to do besides work——or shop or watch screens. Most houses used to have a piano, though, and someone who could play it——the sheet music industry was so successful then. But what to do now?
This is a very busy time for me this year. My job at the Maverik 24hr convenience store has settled into first shift (nominally 7am to 2pm) Saturday and Sunday, and graveyard (10pm to 6 am) Monday-Wednesday. I prefer the graveyard shift because I don’t have to deal with the lottery for most of it. The Mega-Millions jackpot of over a billion dollars was driving a lot of it last week; not so much interest in it now that the pot has reset. The small ($1-$5) scratchers are hot now.
For me, the only downside of the graveyard shift is that it is packed with getting so much of the daily maintenance done. I often opine that there is no place to sit (really – no stool or anything) because there is no time to sit. My Samsung watch counts between 8000 and 12000 steps in a night shift. I am thankful that the store does not sell alcohol – the HOA that controls the land does not allow it because of two nearby schools and a park across the street – because I would dread dealing with the occasional drunk who would insist on my selling him more alcohol.
There was a magnificent Bengals game last Saturday. The Bengals kicker doinked what would have been the winning field goal forcing them to score a touchdown later which beat the point spread and made The Count a tidy payout. Who Dey! Dilly! Dilly!
The Premiere League has a boat load of games over this stretch. They are a nice and tidy 2 hour commitment w/o adds in contrast to the rambling scaffolding for advertising that is Amurican Football.

As a kid it was no problem. Play with the new toys.
As an adult it’s different. We get to play with new bills.

That time was always prime for me and my buddies in the 60s. We’d be at CU Model Raceways racing slot cars all week.
