Coming Soon 👀 At the beginning of April, you’ll be
introduced to a brand-new GoComics! See more information here. Subscribers, check your
email for more details.
Hilarious! (Sorry it took so long to type my comment but I had to check my email, watch a dozen or so YouTube vids, and find inspiration amid 514 strips on gocomics)
Feynman commented on the early vacuum-tube computer that was made available to the researchers at Los Alamos. One of the team heads (he’s identified in “Surely You’re Joking”) was completely captivated and spent all his time at first doing useless things with it, such as calculating a table of all tangents (I think it was tangents) even though a perfectly usable table was already available to everyone. Feynman said that everyone hungered to waste a few days or weeks making the computer do stunts, but some at least sobered up before their turn came to use it
The late, great Cormac McCarthy wrote all of his fiction and correspondence with a single Olivetti Lettera 32 typewriter between the early 1960s and 2009. His Olivetti was auctioned in December 2009 at Christie’s, with the auction house estimating it would fetch between $15,000 and $20,000. It sold for $254,500, with proceeds donated to the Santa Fe Institute. At that time he replaced it with an identical model.

And the reading public was spared many volumes of sickeningly cute self conscious prose.

A strip critical of modern technology, drawn by an artist using the latest technology, and sent to me, using the latest technology. Mmmm. I like it.

A no distraction writing app just isn’t the same. There are still some dedicated word processors out there though.
