There would be a story arc in Phoebe and her Unicorn that was also a play on “writer’s block”. Phoebe and Marigold Heavenly Nostrils were trying to write something – either a song or a story – but they couldn’t think of anything. Phoebe said that they had writer’s block. Marigold disagreed as usual. She said, “If we had the writer’s block, we would not have this problem.” Phoebe asked, “Are we talking at cross purposes again?”

It turned out that unicorn’s know about an actual writer’s block which helps to inspire writing so Phoebe and Marigold went searching for it.

    This is funny, but
so am I supposed to respond to writer’s block by
not writing? No, thank you. That’;s the opposite of what I should do.

OK, so Cal is superman. Even I would have trouble pushing a block THAT big.

Calvin, while sitting on the block pose as ‘The Thinker’. Contemplate about building character or why many consider you ‘The Stinker’.

How did Calvin fashion that block? Could just be a box, I suppose, with stuff in it to make it as heavy as it seems to be in the first panel.

I actually recall reading years ago about someone who had the idea of marketing a novelty joke item called a “mental block”, a small wooden block that you could put on your desk. The article was not so much about the item itself as it was how you go about selling things like that.

As a cartoonist/writer, l find the best way to overcome writer’s block is music.

    Alcohol also helps.
