I have a huge geode, given to us 40 plus years ago. It is quartz and amethyst and we use it as a doorstop.
A friend came over and flipped out when he saw it on the floor, holding open the door.He told us that it was very expensive and we should put it somewhere where it won’t be damaged.
A big royal purple amethyst nodule would not just be lying around like that. Also, the outer layer seems to be made out of different material than the surrounding rocks. I wonder if we’re going to get a cool mystery about who left it there.
My brothers and I would break rocks with a hammer hoping to find something interesting inside. I don’t remember why we thought there might be something in there. A few months ago, my grandsons were doing the same thing and it brought back that memory.
I find it VERY INTERESTING that so far today, all of the comments have (accurately) focused on the reality of the geode in our daily context. But friends, this late Century world that the boys live in is full of…MAGIC! I’m hoping for another astounding and surprising adventure.
When I was a kid, I remember gift shops would sell the uncut probable geodes as “thunderbird eggs” along with some dubious Native American lore about them. They were a lot cheaper than the cut ones on display with the cool crystals inside.
Ahhh, the days before having the answer to nearly everything at your finger tips. That’s right, boys, soak in the wonder and awe. Trip the lights imaginarium.

Geode. Never came across one of those myself but would be like a kid wide-eyed with wonder if/when I do.

Don’t want reality to ruin the fun, I feel that.

Okay, it may be a valuable geode, but first let’s look around for a new-born dragon or such.
