Speaking of the “penny saved” reference, yesterday President Trump signed an executive order stopping the minting of cents. It costs 3.6 cents to mint one cent. The federal government lost $147 million minting cents last year. Canada did this a few years ago. Their old pennies are still in circulation, just as US cents will still be in circulation for many years.
