Yesterday, I read an article on a “flip page” telling how this strip hasn’t aged well. It described all the criticisms I ever had about it: bad parenting, Calvin’s cruelty to Susie, non-interference with Moe’s bullying, etc. This article also makes a point that Hobbes is a STUFFED TOY! There was also a photo of Bill in his younger years—slight resemblance to Walt Disney, just thinner.

Honestly that’s just something siblings would do to eachother.

A cunning plan!

Not quite so cunning.

Susie is now in possession of a highly incriminating tape.

I believe that some time ago a certain President suffered dearly when his tapes came to light.

Calvin could of course cry “Fake News” as a more recent incumbent does.

But I don’t think Calvin’s mum would let that pass without an appropriate punishment.

Susie will get revenge on Calvin.

The way Calvin torments Susie, he really has a deep crush for her.

Susie has been Rosalynned!

In cartoon world, this is where she turns into a jackbutt and goes hee-haw, hee-haw.

this will not end well

But now you have to stay there to keep the door closed, Calvin. There’s no lock.

Calvin didn’t learn his lesson from when he locked Rosalyn out of the house did he?

No smooches for Hobbes!

Next she’ll go hide behind the chain saws.

UGH! You deserved to be trapped in there, Susie! A baby could’ve notice that plea for “help” was a poorly-made recording!

She wouldn’t have been fooled by an 8 track…. the cassette must be Memorex.

You’ve got to be kidding. If not, stop reading comics. You clearly don’t get concept.

So this closet door has a lock, I presume.

Today’s strip should be rated PG. Don’t give any young kids any idea to do this to a younger brother or sister. When I was about 10 years old, I knew a young kid whose baby sitter put him in a dark closet….it messed terribly with his mind and he could not go to sleep with the lights off in his bedroom for years afterward.

Somebody will pay for this.

LOL… Even Hobbes is in on the prank !

I remember that same “recording of someone in distress” trap also being done in the Underdog episode arc “The Great Gold Robbery”, the George of the Jungle episode “Big Top Trap”, and the Penelope Pitstop episode “Wild West Peril”. But since those were the 1960s, the villains used a record player instead of a tape recorder. The second one there I also incorporated into a spoof of this strip; in the second panel Calvin’s voice cries out “HELP! MURDER! POLICE!” and in the third panel, a phone operator’s voice plays on the tape, “This has been a recorded message.”

My hall closet would not have nearly enough space for this trick LOL

THAT WAS A ROTTEN TRICK he’ll pay for that later.

I wish I had thought of something like that in my youth.

I forgot all about tape decks!

What? One of Calvin’s plans actually worked? Amazing!

I really thought she was smarter than that. Or maybe she is and went along with it to get him into really big trouble.

It should be a well known fact that hobbs is evil and his ace in the hole is stuffed.
