Go listen to Sen Murphy on youtube, His 6 weeks of corruption are spot on, starting 17 Jan 2025. This shet show of musks is a diversion of the corruption. trump is making millions under the table. AND musk…billions
I identify (trying to own the MAGA there with a little humor) as a Radically Independent Moderate.
As an older person, back in the day, I tended toward fiscal conservative and social liberal, and was able to vote D or R based upon the politician or issue. Before gerrymandering, most D’s or R’s would talk more extreme during their primary and then drive to the center during their general election and during their term; if they wanted to win the majority of the voters.
Gerrymandering creates the situation where a politician does NOT need to worry about the center and is always fighting to be even more EXTREME than any of their competitors to win their primary, because the general election is rigged to provide the same result.
Believe it or not, radical centrism is a thing. From Wikipedia:
“Radical centrism, also called the radical center, the radical centre, and the radical middle, is a concept that arose in Western nations in the late 20th century. The radical in the term refers to a willingness on the part of most radical centrists to call for fundamental reform of institutions. The centrism refers to a belief that genuine solutions require realism and pragmatism, not just idealism and emotion.”
He is probably centrist in that if you put one foot in a bucket of boiling water and the other in a bucket of ice, he feels just fine on average or “in the middle.”

When a politician says “centrist” they really mean “self-centered.”

Ironically, with all the socio-political polarization these days, centrist might be the most radical position.
