Spring must be nearby—the snow has turned to rain. Amazing, how Batiuk can predict the change of seasons a year ahead of time!

Why do I somehow doubt that WWII vet Ed Crankshaft is familiar with the concept of Apple Pay, or that he wouldn’t assume it involves folks getting recompensed with a bag full of crisp Granny Smiths?

Batty started the week with the absurd premise that school districts would pay children to attend. Now he’s taking the madness a step further, saying the school bus driver, not the teacher, would make the payments. Welcome to late-stage Apartment 3G, folks.

P 3: Ed closes the door before they get on and drives away; tells the school that there were no kids at that particular stop.

The kids will never see the money. The parents of kids who skip school are as irresponsible as the kids, and they will spend the money at the casino.

Who, in their presumed right mind, would put Ed in charge of distributing that money?

I don’t know if this is a real plan somewhere, but it’s doomed to fail. What about the 99 % of kids that just go to school? How is that fair to them?

Readers should consider the brighter side to the kids in this strip. They might turn out to be the first youngest CEOs around and will be able to support their parents (and all the family, too).

Because, obviously, taxpayers should bribe kids to attend a facility that is financially supported by taxes to the kid’s benefit.
