I did the same thing, only my kids sat all the way through breakfast and were waiting for the bus (I often stood out there with the to kick the soccer ball around or throw the frisbee) before they noticed.
A friend of mine once told me that the one time his father shaved, his mother made him sleep on the couch until his beard grew back. She felt like she was sleeping with a stranger.
1) Not a problem for me. I can’t grow a proper beard. Once, I let my facial hair grow for two weeks, and a close friend who hadn’t seen me during that time asked me if I had forgotten to shave “this morning”.
2) When a coworker arrived at the office without his beard, everyone realized that he looked different, but I was the only one who realized that he had shaved. At least one in the office asked if he had gotten a haircut.
When I met my husband and for years after we were married, he had a neatly trimmed beard and mustache. One day, he decided to shave it off. I didn’t recognize him! It took a while to get used to it. I can see how it would confuse children even more. It was very disorienting!
The day before my daughter’s wedding was when my son and my daughter saw me without a beard for the first time. My daughter was fine with it, but my son said that he thought he was in the wrong house. Before that day, the last time I had shaved was when my son was one year old, and he is two and a half years older than my daughter
No joke; a close friend has, for many years, grown a full Grizzly Adams every winter and shaved it off after ski season is over. When his oldest was about 4, he emerged from the bathroom clean-shaven and she burst into tears. She refused to believe it was him. He had to go get his wife to attest to his identity. The next year he made sure to have her watch him shave it off so she would stay calm.
The first time my dad shaved his beard & mustache off, my 3 year old sister screamed at the top of her lungs & refused to go near him for almost the whole day. He sounded like Daddy but didn’t look like him.

Totally happened to me one day 18 years ago. My wife laughed mockingly, my older kid 7 stared shocked, and my younger kid 3 cried.

Honestly my wife and kids didn’t notice for four weeks when I shave my annual beard.

Shaved my mustache off about six weeks after getting married. I came out of the bedroom after the act, and my wife screamed and ran out the door.

I shaved my beard once when my kids were young. My youngest cried and cried. She said, “I want my real daddy back!” I never shaved it off again.

My son was about 6 when I shaved off my beard. He ran to his mother and said “Dad has a chin!”

One guy I worked with started interviewing – so long hair went, his kid cried because there was a strange man in house.

I shaved my mustache off and my wife refused to kiss me until it grew back. She said it was like kissing someone else.

I was about 4 when my dad came home without his beard. I told him he had to leave. I didn’t know who he was.

our young, first-grade daughter did not recognize her Dad when he shaved his beard. She was not impressed!
