Cool! I’ve never formally studied Spanish, but I did study French and one semester of linguistics, and have been able to read the Bible in Spanish — I probably couldn’t follow spoken Spanish unless someone spoke slowly and used common words in a familiar context, but I followed this. I’m all for making English the official national language, but I also think we should all try to learn another language or two, as they do in Europe, although most of us don’t live close to a country where a different language is most common. The world is “getting smaller” all the time, and (like it or not, for good or evil) a global government is coming. I need to get back to my Mandarin studies.

Perhaps, it’s a moment for us to pause and reflect on what it feels like for folks who can’t understand what is being said - whether it’s language, hearing difficulties, poor delivery on my part, or other barriers. I’m often too quick to react when it’s simply that the listener didn’t understand what I said. :)
