Yow! What a strip! Teevo about to become plant food. Doubleup stopping a slug in the chest. Seriously great stuff. I say again: Yow!

Teevo thought he was being put out to pasture, not used as what you find in a pasture.

Not quite sure how Teevo has been getting around Panda’s place, but when Mushroom Lady sees that he is a cop (never mind that he’s as crooked as can be), he’ll become muerte vine chow. Who shot DoubleUp? I hope, in a way, that it was Blaze who shot him! Blaze who shot him!

It sure looks like Teevo may be the next to learn the hard way that, as the Shadow says, “The Weed of Crime bears bitter fruit.”

Eaten alive! That is harsh. Mushroom lady had better be careful, the vine may get used to live food rather than corpses.

Ta ta Teevo. I wonder if we’ll ever know who’s bullet took down Double Up. I guess Davey’s slip up doesn’t matter any more. I suspect that he and Blaze might escape this mess and Mr Crime will return someday.

I think it might have been one of Lee Ebony’s shots that got Doubleup ; Kadaver could have gotten out of the way in all that smoke.

Guess I’m the only one who hates the new violence. As I see it, the comic strips are intended mainly forschool-age children. Would you want your kids to be seeingthis crap? I say shame on you, Team Tracy!

Yes, kids are exposed to a lot of violence on TV.But the funnies are supposed to be a safe place for kids.

I posted this very late yesterday. I hope that I have not violated Robots Rule of Order and be asked to leave the future.

Joe and Mike are really doing their job

Just look at all the scenarios they got from this mob

Of opinions there’s seemingly no dearth

So please allow me my two pennies worth

Abner, ever the gallant murderous ghoul is he

Was merely responding to what Lizz said you see

He fans the smoke, Lizz gives a shriek

Oh man! Did she really just say eek?

His fanning the air gives her quite the start

Just before a hail of bullets tears him apart

But No! He appears to have escaped without a scathe

Could it truly be that he’s some kind of wraith?

Lizz, from her position down on the floor

Aims to more than even up the score

B.B. Eyes, slowly bringing up the rear

Opens fire in a display of fear

His muzzle blasts are just what they need

Man, that cat really can bleed.

Panda meanwhile uses double aught buck

I sure hope Tracy doesn’t run out of luck

We wait some more with our breath in abate

To see who is soon going to become the late.

Oh the calamity! Oh what a mess

But it sure is fun, I certainly must confess.

Your welcome, cpalmeresq and thank you.

Doubleup’s dialogue balloon should read “Arrgh! Arrgh!” That would make a great final line from him.

The action now becomes fast and furious

Doubleup finds it to be quite injurious

As the smoke wafts down the stair

Everyone’s vision it will soon impair

Teevo, that vile, despicable, loathsome rat

To his despair will soon discover that

The lady with the puffy face

    Doesn’t provide a hiding place

    Cleopatra, her favorite vine

On crooked cop soon will dine

But her choice will be called into question

    As she suffers from indigestion

In many rooms and on separate floors

Death comes knocking at their doors

And though it may seem perverse

    He’s like Diogenes in reverse

Bitter indeed is the taste of the fruit

To those who would rob and loot

So stay on the straight and narrow

Else you find it is to your peril

    Two movies that to some

Might prove to be of fun

“Attack of the Mushroom People” comes to mind

And “Day of the Triffids” is mighty fine.

Woo Hoo!Everything’s happening!I’m sure Blaze shot Doublup – partly in revenge, and partly self-defense after he used his whip on her! (I hope he survives; he’s a nifty bad guy who’s never gone face-to-face with Tracy.)The Mushroom Lady’s dialogue sounds familar – wasn’t she in “Hansel and Gretel”?

Doubleup’s doubled up with pain, and someone is about become a Teevo dinner for the muerte vine! Is this Teevo’s swan song? (Yeah I know—youngsters won’t get that one.)This takes me back to how much I enjoyed Dick Tracy when I was a child, and the thrilling action and daily cliffhangers made me eager to grab the newspaper each and every day. As several old Warner Bros. characters used to say, “I can hardly wait to see what happened to Dick Tracy!”Keep the wonderful poetry coming, Wndrwrthg!

So the new Dick Tracy writer-artist team of Joe Stanton and Mike Curtis have been on the job for more than a year now, and I haven’t been discussing the strip here as often as I did in its previous iteration, mostly because the art is pretty good and the plots are no longer marked by incomprehensible dream-like lunacy punctuated by horrific violence. If I have one major criticism, it’s that so much of the plots seem to have been aimed at assembling all of the strip’s classic villains into one overarching criminal syndicate, which has gotten a bit tiresome to those of us not up on eighty years of Tracy lore. But over the past few week’s the assembled baddies have been caught up in an epic gunfight as Tracy and the cops bust in to make arrests, with a fair amount of carnage ensuing.

Which makes me wonder — what if the last 15 months have just been carefully putting all the pieces of the storied Dick Tracy rogues gallery in place just so they can all be killed in a crazed, botched police raid? And then the new team can say “Ha ha, this strip is ours now, we’re going to make up all sorts of new crazies?” Probably won’t happen, but it would amuse me. Plus I kind of want to see this Indonesian action film called The Raid about a police raid on a huge gang-controlled high-rise tower that goes horribly wrong but in practice I probably don’t have the stomach for that much movie violence so maybe this Dick Tracy is as close as I’m going to actually tolerate.
